What's the one thing I always hear from my clients when talking about a portrait session?

I get this literally every time I talk with a client. Whether we are talking about doing a portrait session, planning their wedding day or catching up on a milestone. These are the words that 99% of people will tell me. "I'm awkward in photos, you have your work cut out for you!"
It's interesting because the expressions I get to capture are always priceless and they happen in the blink of an eye! I'll let you in on a little secret.....
I feel EXACTLY the same way. I mean come on now! Unless you model for a living, most people have no clue what to do when faced with the long lens on a camera.
How am I going to pose? Will I look good? Are you going to catch me in an awkward position? Will you give me some direction etc, etc.
I may catch you in a goofy position, but the fact is my camera is so fast the next position looks magical and will be the one that makes you weep happy tears over those special moments.
I failed really bad when my son was born. I didn't want to feel uncomfortable in front of the camera (because I was heavier than I liked) so I took ZERO pictures of myself and my son. ZERO!
I try to convey to my friends and clients alike that you can never get a moment back. Our lives consists of moments, each one fleeting and irreplaceable! So have fun, live to the fullest, laugh often and take it all in. And most importantly document all of your moments because they happen so quickly! Who cares about being awkward it's not a word in my vocabulary.
Hope you enjoyed the read, LIVE. LAUGH. PHOTO. <3 Ariel
